School Trips - The Underground Railroad Back

The Trackless Train. The Emancipation Car. The Mysterious Track.

There were many names for the various paths to Freedom which wended from the South through the United States to Canada. From 1830 to 1865, the peak years of the Underground Railroad, a coalition of antislavery activists, both black and white, spirited fugitive slaves along secret routes. The term "Underground Railroad" was supposedly born of a slave owner's remark that a slave had disappeared as if he "had gone off on some underground railroad".

Our research has found the top locations to learn about the experience of these "Footsteps of Freedom". We have found that states along the "liquid line" between Slavery and Freedom - the Ohio River - and that area along the 19th Century "River Jordan" (the Niagara River) offer the best interpretive experiences. Please contact our office to learn how we can create a customized, unforgettable event for your students, guaranteed to make each a "New World Abolitionist" if not one already!.
